Episode 10 of the Rostrum podcast ‘Managing Reputational Risk’ is now live, hosted and produced by Rostrum’s director of Reputation, in-house media trainer and crisis lead Grant Bather.

Each episode of ‘Managing Reputational Risk’ examines the communications response to a negative reputational issue and how organisations can take a proactive approach to reputational issues, as well as how businesses should operate before, during and after a crisis event.

Episode 10 features Sophie Mellish, head of social media and corporate at Rostrum. Grant and Sophie examine the role of social media teams in a crisis, how consumers are increasingly turning to social media to air their grievances with organisations – and how reputational management on social media needs to involve a variety of cross-functional teams.

This includes examples and guidance on what to do in a crisis, and steps that social media teams can take during ‘business as usual’ to ensure that they are on a firm footing should a reputational issue erupt.

The conversation also examines the changes introduced by the new Twitter owner Elon Musk and what this could mean for organisations, of all sizes.

Sophie also explains how to use social media for monitoring purposes and the importance of a very proactive approach to social media management using internal resources and external agencies to support the approach. There is one key takeaway: the need for a joined up, clear social media policy and approach.

Rostrum’s monthly series focusing on reputation management looks at all facets of a media storm, with insight from HR professionals, lawyers, in-house marketing teams, communications professionals and more. It also seeks to provide tips for proactive reputation management to help individuals and organisations minimise and mitigate their exposure to potential crisis events.

Each episode provides real life examples, examines news agenda themes and invites guests from a variety of sectors and disciplines to give their own take on what a crisis is – and how they would manage a reputational issue.
