What is PR? What makes a story newsworthy? How do you secure coverage for your client? These were among the key questions answered by our very own Grant Bather in a ‘Careers in PR’ session for students at the University of Birmingham in November.

The virtual session provided a fantastic insight into the industry and shared some of the critical differences between in-house and agency PR, alongside a variety of key attributes needed by aspiring PR professionals.

As usual, Grant spoke with great passion about all aspects of PR which inspired a variety of questions from the students, many of whom were concerned about the post-pandemic future of the industry. It remains clear that PR is a fast-moving, dynamic profession that is now more important than ever, due to the help that PR teams continually provide to brands in managing their reputation throughout this global crisis.

Lisa Donnelly, Careers Adviser at the University of Birmingham, said: “Grant delivered another insightful and inspiring session on ‘Careers in PR’ for our students here at the University of Birmingham. Even though the event was held virtually, Grant’s energy really shone through, and we received lots of great questions from students, and of course lots of appreciation from them too. It’s particularly encouraging for our students to know that they can consider a career in PR, whatever subject they are studying. Grant’s passion for PR is evident and it’s fantastic to see him encouraging our students to consider this as a potential career path.”
